Garment Care & Precautions
  • Take garments to the Drycleaners on a regular basis. Dirt in the fibers can cause garments to abrade and show wear. Stains are more difficult to remove the longer they remain in the garments.
  • Do not press soiled clothes, heat sets stains.
  • Applying water to remove a stain can cause rings that are more difficult to remove than the original stain.
  • Bring soiled garment to dry cleaner as soon as possible.
  • Alert the cleaner to any stains, visible or non-visible.
  • Provide the Drycleaner with details about the location and substance of stains.
  • Apply perfume, hair spray, deodorants and lotions carefully. Contact of these items with the fabric can affect the color dyes.
  • Don't hang clothes in direct sun, dyes will sun fade and fume fade.

Storing
  • Cover the drycleaned articles with a cloth garment bag to keep it free from dust and moths.  Don’t use the plastic cover that came with the drycleaned article because it won’t allow the natural fibers to breathe and it won’t let harmful moisture escape.

Traveling
  • If traveling by car, lay the tuxedo flat or hang it up. It can be handy to pack the accompanying formal shirt, waist cover and accessories in the same garment bag to help make sure that nothing is accidently left behind.
  • If traveling by other means, some creasing of the dinner suit is inevitable.  However, this can usually be easily remedied by hanging the tuxedo in the bathroom after arriving and running the hot water in the shower or bathtub for fifteen to thirty minutes.
